Vision 02 Academy Girls, U.S. National Cup Champions

The Vision 02 Academy Girls were recently crowned U.S. National Cup champions in Aurora, Colorado after defeating the Massachusetts’s State Cup champions 5-4 in the penalty kicks. The Vision girls were invited to the cup based on winning the Norcal State Cup in May. The U. S. Club Nationals included teams from throughout the country participating to decide who was the Cup Champions.

The trip to the championship was not easy as the Vision girls had to battle in 90 degree heat and high humidity, playing at altitude, having misplaced luggage and dealing with a microburst storm that closed half the fields at the Aurora soccer complex. The girls even had a fire at their hotel the night before the championship!

Coach Chris Vane noted “that the girls played with extreme focus and passion despite strong competition from teams from North Carolina and Rhode Island. He believes that the girl’s mental and physical preparation (running in the San Jose hills) prepared them for the intense competition in Colorado. Congratulations girls!

The trip was just the start of a busy summer as the girls quickly headed off to Surf Cup in San Diego and the following week will be playing in the Mustang Stampede.
